Kathleen M. (Nummela) Peters, 89, formerly of Kettle River, died peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Villa Vista in Cromwell where she had been a resident since 2010.
She was born on March 10, 1927 in Superior, WI to Nikolai and Rose (Begin) Nummela and grew up in Kalevala Township. She attended Kalevala Elementary School and Cromwell High School for two years, and then graduated from Barnum High School in 1945. Following graduation, she worked at the banks in Barnum and Moose Lake. She was then appointed Kettle River City Clerk, a position she held for 33 years. She married Edward J. Peters on November 22, 1947 in Moose Lake and they their raised their four children in Kettle River. Kathleen had been a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and Church Guild, the American Legion Auxiliary, Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, and the Kettle River Senior Citizens. She enjoyed spending time with her family, listening and dancing to old-time music, volunteering, and following various sports teams.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edward; her parents; son, Jeffrey; brothers Leonard, Melvin and Robert Nummela; and special friend, Mike Shimell.
Kathleen is survived by one daughter, Pamela (Michael) Adamczak, Duluth; two sons, John (Dennis Kaminski), Milwaukee, WI and Mark (Dawn), Kettle River; daughter-in-law, Darlene Peters, Eagan; sisters-in-law, Barb Nummela, Kettle River, Marlene Nummela, Parrish, FL and Virginia Peters, Minneapolis; 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 28, 2017 from 10:00AM until the 11:00AM Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Moose Lake. Interment will be held in the spring at West Branch Cemetery, Kalevala Township.
