Welcome to the memorial page for

Nancy Jean Moe

January 6, 1933 ~ October 6, 2017 (age 84)

The Piano Brothers

Nancy Jean (Reese) Moe passed away Friday, October 6, 2017 at Mercy Hospital, Moose Lake, MN.

Nancy was born January 6, 1933 and was adopted by Frank and Hortense Reese at the age of 2.  She lived with her parents in Excelsior, MN, overlooking Lake Minnetonka, and attended school there as well.  She had 5 half-siblings that were grown when she was adopted (John, Mary, Therman, Louise, and Jim).  Nancy married James Andrew Moe on August 12, 1950.

Shortly after getting married, James was drafted into the military and Nancy accompanied him to Camp Atterbury, Indiana.  There Nancy worked in the Army Hospital and was a nanny to the Colonel’s children.  In late October of 1952, James was discharged from active duty and spent two more years in the Army Reserves, at which time they moved back to Minnesota and lived in Minnetonka Manor until October of 1968, when they moved north to Willow River, MN.

Nancy was a homemaker; she and James had 5 children: Susan, Pamela, Janine, James Jr., and John.  Her biggest joy was her children and grandchildren.  She was very close to her husband’s aunt and uncle, Cora and Pete Herzog; they were like Nancy’s second mom and dad.  The years spent living next to Cora, Pete and their three sons in Minnetonka were very cherished memories to Nancy and to her children.

She loved reading, but particularly westerns, Indian culture, poetry, and history.  She had a true love for John F. Kennedy and John Wayne.  She enjoyed preparing for the holidays, painting, drawing, baking, singing, playing canasta, and watching westerns.  She also adored her dogs.  She had many, many dogs over the years and they were her constant companions.

Nancy was a very loving, caring, and compassionate person; no matter who came to visit, family or friends, everyone was welcome by Nancy and James.  She was so fun to be with!

Nancy is survived by her husband, James; children, Susan (Duane) Olson, Pam Gossman, Janine (Robert) Kost, James (Karen) Moe, John Moe; 18 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Hortense Reese; step-brother, John (Harriet) Moos, step-sister, Mary Moos, Louise Reese (Bill) Mills, step-brothers, Therman Reese and Jim (Marn) Reese; grandsons, Jesse Kenowski and Wyatt Kenowski; and great-granddaughter, Alana Olson.

Gathering of Friends and family will be Monday, October 16, 2017  from 1:00 PM until the 2:00 PM Celebration of Nancy’s Life at the Church of Victory, 6315 Brogade, Askov, Minnesota.   A private burial will be at a later date.   Arrangements are by Souder-Handevidt Funeral & Cremation Service, Cloquet, Minnesota.
