Raymond William Leland, 86, of Duluth, MN, passed away peacefully with family and friends near, on Sunday, October 30th, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth. Ray was born September 25, 1930 in Duluth, MN to Thorsten and Reidun (Olson) Leland.
Ray was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Korean War as a Navy Quartermaster. He was an insurance adjuster at Travelers Insurance, and started his own businesses Arrowhead Adjusting Services and International Marine Surveyors while simultaneously in real estate for over 10 years before his retirement.
Ray was a member of First Lutheran Church in Duluth, MN. He was committed to his faith and shared the gospel of Jesus Christ regularly as an active volunteer at the Duluth Gospel Mission and Salvation Army. He also served as a Sunday school teacher for over 20 years. Ray liked reading, skiing, hiking, gardening, outdoor activities and was involved in many social organizations including Sons of Norway and the Clamagore Veterans Association. Ray was a loving father and grandfather and was committed to his family. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed and remembered.
He is survived by daughters, Kathleen (James) Young, Carolyn (Steven) Johnson, Brenda (Aaron) Granquist, and son Timothy Leland; sister Mardell (Bob) Lindstrom and brother Philip Leland; 13 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild; nieces and nephews.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Thorwald Leland, and Donald Leland; 2 sisters, Irene Tungseth, and Audrey Goltz.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 12th, 2016 at First Lutheran Church in Duluth, MN. at 11:00a.m. Visitation is 1 hour prior to service.
