Michael (Mike) Joseph Harty passed away on March 20th, 2018. He was born in Chicago, Illinois; September 28th, 1957 to Jack and surviving mother, Mary Lou Harty. Mike was a proud union pipefitter for 38 years with Local 589 out of Virginia, MN.
Typically, Mike started his day with coffee, a banana, peanut butter and a morning walk. Mike held his health in high importance and took care of his family by providing the “American Dream.” He will be remember by the endless information he could recall about all things cars, sports, history, weather, construction, architecture, music, nature and conspiracies. Mike was a go-getter, often found working with his hands or talking to anyone who had ears.
He deeply loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, swimming in oceans, gardening, camping and hiking are some of the greatest gifts he gave to his children. For his daughter’s birthday, two days before his own, they hiked a seven-mile trail called Grace Ridge in Kachemak Bay, Alaska. He also borrowed gear and provided Lake locations for his older daughter and her partner to enjoy outside last summer.
Mike is survived by his children, Amy (Matt) and Kyra (Keon), mother Mary Lou, granddaughter Kenzie (soon-to-be great granddaughter), sisters: Ellen (Dan), Anne (Andy) and Elizabeth (Martin) and many nieces and nephews.
